To create a device that would mimic the sensation of smoking without the harmful effects of combustion.

Using his knowledge in pharmacy and electronics, Hon developed the first electronic cigarette prototype, which used ultrasound technology to vaporize a nicotine solution. Although ultrasound wasn’t efficient enough for vaporizing, this initial experiment set the stage. He quickly switched to a simpler heating mechanism that used a tiny heating coil to transform liquid into vapor, and voilà—the modern vape was born and sparked a revolution!
